In early May Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department. If you act now, you will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to the $1,200 individual payment. If you do not provide information to the IRS before May 5th, your payment will only be $1,200. You will then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return in order to receive the additional $500 per eligible child.
If you are an SSI recipient who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes and have qualifying children under the age of 17, you should not wait for the automatic $1,200 individual payment. The IRS webpage, www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here will walk you through the steps to enter information on the IRS website. This proactive step will ensure you receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Be cautious of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments.
