According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), older adults, people with disabilities, and the organizations that support them are part of the community preparedness planning for COVID-19. For families and caregivers, it is helpful if you support these efforts in preparedness if an outbreak were to happen.
People at major risk for this virus include
- Older adults
- People with medical conditions such as:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Lung disease
What you should do to prepare if an outbreak happens in your community.
- Have supplies on hand
- Obtain extra necessary medications to have on hand in case you need to stay home for an extended period of time or consider mail-order for medications
- Have over-the counter medicines and supplies on hand to treat fever and other symptoms
- Stock up on extra groceries in case you need to stay home for an extended period of time
- Take everyday precautions
- Avoid people who are sick
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
- Do not touch your face, nose and, eyes
- Disinfect your home (tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, remotes, etc.)
- Avoid closed-in settings with little air circulation
