Our department houses introductory, advanced, and specialized courses in anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, sociology and global languages.

The Social Science Department has a long history at UW-Stout of providing courses across the social sciences and involving students in applied research to help solve societal problems and benefit the local community. The department also offers coursework in global languages and participates in the Universities of Wisconsin Collaborative Language Program. Social science courses contribute to a wide range of campus programs and satisfy Stout Core requirements in the areas of humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and social responsibility and ethical reasoning.

The Social Science Department provides you with a variety of academic minors, combined with your major in Applied Social Science.
