When it’s cold outside and there’s snow — or a lack thereof — what is there to do on the weekend at UW-Stout?

Plenty, especially if students keep their eyes on the schedule for three new special weekends, the Weekend Ticket, that are coming up. They will be held Friday to Sunday Jan. 25-27, Feb. 15-17 and March 15-17.

Members of UW-Stout’s hockey team line up during the national anthem before a recent game against Hamline. The event titles are January Jubilee, February Festivities and March Mysteries.

The first weekend will feature four events Friday:

  • The award-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” 6 and 9 p.m., room 210 of Applied Arts, sponsored by Blue Devil Productions, a student-run events and activities organization
  • Glow Zumba/Yoga, 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center
  • A community candlelight ski, dependent on snow, 6 to 9 p.m., at the Red Cedar Trail
  • Men’s hockey vs. UW-Superior, 7 p.m. at Fannetti Ice Arena

Four more events are set for Saturday:

  • Laser tag, 1 to 4 p.m., in the Great Hall of the student center
  • Women’s basketball vs. UW-Platteville, 3 p.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse
  • Bingo Night, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Terrace of the student center
  • Karaoke, 9 to 11 p.m., at Huff’s Lounge of the student center

The Weekend Ticket won’t require a ticket — all activities are free to students.

“These events offer some great ‘stay in Menomonie’ options, and they are great choices to help new students on campus get connected,” said Jennifer Lee, associate director of the student center.

The university’s annual Family Weekend, with myriad activities, is April 12-14.
