Meet Our First-Year Advisers

We're here for your student, anytime

Once your first-year student is on campus, they’ll undoubtedly have questions about…everything. They’ll probably ring you a few times for help. But if you don’t have the answer, what should they do?

Every first-year student is assigned to an adviser in the Advisement Center. Students can reach out to their adviser anytime for anything. They are a wonderful resource for your student.

Here’s a little bit about each of the advisers: 

Denise Goers

Denise Goers advises applied biochemistry and molecular biology; applied math and computer science; applied science; computer networking and information technology; computer science; cybersecurity; dietetics; digital marketing technology; environmental science; food science and technology; information communication technologies; and undeclared.

  • Favorite pizza topping: Chicken Alfredo 
  • Favorite Menomonie thing to do: Kayaking the Red Cedar River from Colfax to Tainter Lake. Students can rent kayaks and canoes from Stout Adventures.
  • Advice for a first-year student: Ask any questions you have. Everyone at UW-Stout wants to help.

  • What’s one piece of advice you’d give a first-year student: Going to the Menomonie 7 movie theater.
  • What’s one piece of advice you’d give a first-year student: Check your email every morning. Getting into the routine will be helpful to not miss important updates and opportunities on campus.

 

Jamie Arenz

Jamie Arenz advises applied social science; art education; criminal justice and rehabilitation; early childhood education; family and consumer sciences education; health, wellness, and fitness; human development and family studies; marketing and business education; psychology; rehabilitation services; special education; supply chain management; technology education; and undeclared.

  • What’s your favorite pizza topping: Pepperoni
  • What’s your favorite Menomonie thing to do: The Farmers Market or the Ludington Guard Band on Tuesday nights in the summer.
  • What’s one piece of advice you’d give a first-year student: You belong here Ask questions and take social risks. Initiate conversations and get to know other students.

 

Heidi Gilbertson

Heidi Gilbertson advises fashion and retail; pre-animation and digital media; pre-game design and development-art; professional communication and emerging media; and video production.

  • What’s your favorite pizza topping: Pepperoni
  • What’s your favorite Menomonie thing to do: Walking the trails in the city parks – Menomin Park, Wakanda Park and Riverside Park.
  • What’s one piece of advice you’d give a first-year student: Make the community part of their college experience; get out of your room and off campus.

 

Megan Quick, UW-Stout

Megan Quick advises computer and electrical engineering; construction; engineering technology; manufacturing engineering; mechanical engineering; packaging; plastics engineering; and undeclared.

  • What’s your favorite pizza topping: Pepperoni 
  • What’s your favorite Menomonie thing to do: Eating at all the local restaurants.
  • What’s one piece of advice you’d give a first-year student: Don't be afraid to ask for help.
