Available Grants and Scholarships
FIRST-YEAR STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
Multicultural Scholarship (New Incoming Undergraduate Student)
Eligible applicants must be accepted to UW-Stout and plan to enroll as a first year, full-time degree seeking student, who will be taking courses on campus during the upcoming academic year.
Eligible applicants must be:
- United States citizen or permanent resident
- Historically underrepresented student
- Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities as shown through participation in community service, employment experience, extracurricular and other activities.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be completed no later than March 1st or as close to that date as possible for the application to be considered.
Award Amount: $2,500
PLEASE NOTE: This is a separate application process from the Foundation and Admissions scholarships. You must apply through this application and submit ALL required application materials by the deadline date to be considered.
Application for 2024-2025 will be available in February.
SECOND YEAR AND BEYOND GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS
Multicultural Scholarship (Returning Undergraduate Student)
Eligible applicants must be a UW-Stout returning student, full-time degree-seeking students, who will be taking courses on campus during the upcoming academic year.
Eligible applicants must be:
- United States citizen or permanent resident
- Historically underrepresented student
- Current UW-Stout degree seeking undergraduate student
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
- Enrolled at UW-Stout during the academic year prior to scholarship award year
- Enrollment in at least 12 undergraduate credits each semester
- Financial need may be considered with FAFSA application
- Demonstrated significant personal achievements and leadership through active participation on campus or service to community

Award Amount: $2,500

Lawton Undergraduate Multicultural Retention Grant (LUMRG)
The intent of the Lawton Undergraduate Multicultural Retention Grant (LUMRG) is to provide financial assistance to designated underrepresented undergraduate students to improve opportunities for retention and graduation and lessen the burden of student debt. Limited awards available.
Eligibility Criteria:
- United States citizen or permanent resident
- Must be Wisconsin resident
- LUMRG funds are not available to out of state residents. Minnesota reciprocity is not included in this grant program.
- Statutorily designated minority (Black, Native American, Hispanic/Latinx & Southeast Asian-Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Hmong)
- Undergraduate student seeking first bachelor’s degree
- Completed at least 24 credits
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
- Financial need (determined by financial aid office with FAFSA application)
- Enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester
Special students and students working towards a second undergraduate degree are not eligible.
Award Amount: $3,000

GRADUATE STUDENT GRANT
Advanced Opportunity Program (AOP)
The intent of the Advanced Opportunity Program (AOP) is to provide financial assistance to designated minority and disadvantaged graduate students to improve their opportunities for retention and graduation and lessen the burden of student debt. Limited awards available.
Eligibility Criteria:
- U.S. citizen or permanent residents at the time of the application.
- Member of disadvantaged or underrepresented ethnic minority group.
- Admitted to graduate degree program at UW-Stout:
- Non-degree seeking students with “special” status are NOT eligible.
- Courses must apply to program requirements.
- A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- Must maintain 3.0 semester GPA for continued funding.
- A minimum of 5 credits/semester is required. Award amount based on the number of credits for each semester (award $450/1 credit).
- Maximum award for full-time student is $6,300/semester.
- Maximum time to receive award as a part-time student is 8 semesters. Maximum time to receive award as a full-time student is 6 semesters.
- Must be Wisconsin resident.
- AOP funds are not available to out of state residents. Minnesota reciprocity is not included in this grant program.
- Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to UW-Stout Financial Aid office.
Award Amount: $450 per credit (minimum of 5 credits and maximum of 14 credits)
