The University of Wisconsin-Stout is closely monitoring the emerging global public health concern involving COVID-19.
As this issue continues to evolve, our goal is to help students through the admissions process and provide them the support they need to be successful. Please see below for the most current information regarding UW-Stout Admissions procedures and policies during the COVID-19 situation.
New Freshman and First-Year Students
UW-Stout is focused on student success and excited to share our unique learning experience with prospective students. We are pleased to announce that starting December 11, 2020 we have decided to waive our application fee for the next two years!
UW-Stout will accept an emailed unofficial high school transcript to review and make a decision on an application. Examples of acceptable unofficial transcripts:
- A screenshot or PDF from an online student portal that shows grades 9-12.
- A screenshot or scanned copy of a paper transcript.
Admitted students will be required to submit a final official high school transcript with a graduation date as soon as high schools are able to accommodate.
If an admitted student is unable to supply a final official transcript prior to classes starting in the fall, they should contact the admissions office at admissions@uwstout.edu.
No applicant to UW-Stout will be penalized if schools elect to implement a pass/fail grading structure for the remainder of the current school year. Our hope is that students will continue their coursework, in whatever delivery method is offered, to best prepare for academic success at Stout.
UW-Stout does not have a confirmation date or enrollment deposit.
Visit UW-Stouts Prior Learning website for more information about earning college credit.
As of February 5, 2021 UW-Stout has extended being test optional to the 2022-2023 academic years.
Major Specific Admission Requirements: Some of our academic majors have additional admission requirements to be admitted directly into the major. Test scores will be required for admission into these programs. Find a list of those majors and the requirements here.
Blue Devil Guarantee Scholarship Program: Test scores will be required for students to be eligible for the BDG Scholarship program. Students who are admitted by the first Monday in February may submit test scores through March 15th to be eligible for this scholarship program.
UW-Stout requires official college transcripts to be sent directly from each institution or through an electronic secure document sending service.
Most institutions are able to send transcripts during the COVID-19 pandemic. If your college or university is unable to provide a transcript due to COVID-19, contact the UW-Stout Admissions Office at admissions@uwstout.edu.
Fall 2021 FYRO info coming soon!
Visit the First-Year Registration and Orientation website for more information.
When should I take the exams? New students for fall 2021 may register for the placement exams beginning March 15, 2021. Once you've registered and received a username and password from Scantron, you have 180 days to complete any tests. After that you will need to re-register for the exams.
Tests should be completed at least 2 weeks prior to your advising appointment to allow for processing. It is recommended that you complete the English, math, and optional world language exams no later than Thursday at noon (12 p.m.) central time for your campus advisor to receive your scores the following week.
What technology do I need to take the exams? Our recommendation is that students test on a desktop computer, laptop computer, or tablet, rather than on a phone. Your web browser must be able to accept cookies, JavaScript, and pop-up windows. It is also recommended that you use the most up-to-date version of your web browser. If you are concerned about meeting these technology needs, please complete the accommodations questionnaire and a member of our team will contact you to discuss your technology needs.
